Eligibility Requirements

General Requirements

  • Minimum age of 18 years (16-17 with parental consent for select programs)
  • Commitment to our mission and values
  • Ability to commit to the required time period
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

For International Volunteers

  • Valid passport with at least 6 months validity
  • Appropriate visa for volunteering in Kenya
  • Travel and health insurance coverage
  • Required vaccinations for travel to Kenya

For Specific Roles

  • Relevant skills or experience for specialized positions
  • Background check for roles working with children
  • Language proficiency (English required, Swahili beneficial)

Time commitments vary by role. Part-time positions typically require 8-10 hours per week for at least 3 months. Full-time positions require 30-40 hours per week for at least 1 month. One-time event volunteers may commit to a single day or weekend. We're flexible and can work with your schedule to find the right opportunity for you.

Prior experience is beneficial but not required for most volunteer positions. We provide training and support for all volunteers. Your enthusiasm, willingness to learn, and commitment to our mission are the most important qualities. For specialized roles, relevant skills or experience may be necessary, but we encourage people from all backgrounds to apply.

There is no fee to volunteer with Busula Agri Foundation. However, international volunteers are responsible for their own travel expenses, accommodation, meals, and insurance. For local volunteers, we provide transportation allowances for those traveling to our project sites. Some long-term volunteer positions may include accommodation and meals, which will be clearly stated in the position description.

Yes, we offer several remote volunteer opportunities, including digital content creation, grant writing, research, translation, and online tutoring. Remote volunteers are still required to attend virtual meetings and training sessions. These positions are ideal for professionals who want to contribute their skills while maintaining their current job or for those unable to travel to Kenya.

We provide comprehensive orientation and training for all volunteers, regular check-ins and supervision, access to necessary resources and materials, and a supportive community of staff and fellow volunteers. International volunteers receive assistance with local logistics, cultural orientation, and safety information. We also provide certificates of service, reference letters, and professional development opportunities.

The application process typically takes 2-4 weeks from submission to final decision. After submitting your application, you can expect an initial response within 1-2 weeks. If selected for an interview, this will be scheduled within the following week. Final decisions are usually made within a week after the interview. For urgent positions or one-time events, we may expedite the process.
