Not for all programs. While agricultural experience is preferred for some roles like Agricultural Education and Research & Innovation, many other programs welcome volunteers with diverse backgrounds. Community Outreach, Media & Documentation, and Remote Support roles often require different skill sets. We match volunteers based on their unique skills and the program's needs.
For on-site volunteers, you are responsible for your travel expenses, visa fees, vaccinations, and personal insurance. We provide accommodation, local transportation, and meals during your service. Remote volunteers have no associated costs beyond ensuring they have reliable internet access. Some programs offer stipends to help offset expenses, which will be discussed during the interview process.
We generally require volunteers to commit to the full duration of their chosen program to ensure continuity and meaningful impact. However, we understand that circumstances vary, and we may be able to accommodate shorter commitments for certain remote roles or during high-demand seasons. Please indicate your availability in your application, and we'll discuss possibilities during the interview.
All volunteers receive comprehensive orientation and training specific to their role. On-site volunteers are provided with accommodation, meals, local transportation, and 24/7 emergency support. You'll be assigned a program coordinator who will guide you throughout your service. Remote volunteers receive regular check-ins, technical support, and access to our online volunteer community. We also provide certificates of service and reference letters upon successful completion.
Volunteers must be at least 18 years old. There is no upper age limit, and we welcome volunteers of all ages who meet the program requirements. We've had successful volunteers ranging from college students to retirees. Each brings valuable perspectives and skills to our work. For certain programs with physically demanding activities, a health assessment may be required.
Yes, we welcome couples and groups who wish to volunteer together. Each person must submit an individual application and meet the program requirements. We'll do our best to place you in the same location or program, though this depends on the skills needed and available positions. For groups larger than five people, please contact us directly to discuss customized volunteer opportunities.
